Dipole is a video and sound installation that explores the relationship between reflection and resonance. Metal plates are used in sound design to simulate the sound of the storm and thunder or to create reverb effects.
Here, this material is used by the artist with the intention of making a silent film. Thus, the plate becomes an instrument of light, oscillatory landscape set in abyss and self-portrait. From the same steel plate, the artist created an electromagnetic system capable of moving the plate according to a score from the silent film building.
This machine-instrument is synchronized with the projected film, like a musician playing on silent film. The sound produced by the instrument is the invention of sound figured in the film, as if the steel awakened in him the memory of his past transductions.
